# American Helix | Patented Venturi-Cooled Glass

American Helix is the original source of the patented Helix Venturi cooling system — engineered glass pipes designed in Moody, Texas. The technology was developed and patented in 2007 by William Menzies Jr., who apprenticed under Bob Snodgrass before opening his own shop. American Helix has been in continuous production since.

## How the Venturi System Works

A three-port Venturi chamber is machined into every Helix piece. As you draw, the three precision micro-ports pull ambient air into the chamber at angles that collide and rotate, forming a visible spiral. The rotating column transfers heat into the cooler borosilicate walls. Temperature drops from up to 700°F at the bowl down to approximately 100°F at the mouthpiece. The visible tornado is the cooling mechanism, not decoration.
